Filtering input can be simple once you're used to doing it
Avatar
fair enough
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/1/2018 6:50 PM
But it can also be really annoying if you're not
6:51 PM
I still struggle to consciously filter out audio, for example
Avatar
well it seems like that or falling asleep so for at least days I can't be well rested it's an option.
6:53 PM
I realy do want to get some noise canceling headphones to just to make things easier.
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/1/2018 6:54 PM
Interesting. Meditation really isn't restful for me, although it is somewhat relaxing.
Avatar
I think it's the breathing and closed eyes that just drag me fighting into sleep
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/1/2018 6:55 PM
Although that might just be my tendency to only use it when I need to buff up my mental abilities
Avatar
Hmm I'm not huge into meditation only really use it for tulpa related purposes maybe I'll have to try some different things.
Avatar
I struggle with drowsiness during meditation. Selecting a spot that's comfortable but not too comfortable can help.
7:04 PM
For example, sitting straight up in your chair at your desk. It's not uncomfortable by any means, but you're unlikely to fall asleep there.
Avatar
Maybe I just get too tired but even sitting up doesn't mean I won't fall asleep. (edited)
Avatar
Oh, haha
7:09 PM
Some, including myself, would consider that a talent. (edited)
Avatar
I wish I knew how to benefit from it doesn't seem to help much when I want to sleep.
Avatar
Ah, well if it's out of your control, I guess that's more of an inconvenience.
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/1/2018 7:13 PM
I can't really sleep unless I can stretch out

My chair is not tall enough so i have to physicallly keep my head up. (edited)
Avatar
totally out of the blue but if you have any questions about vipassana practices and how those apply to tulpas I might ask my teacher soon.
5:50 PM
I have all the questions.
Avatar
I'll need a list; y'know.
Avatar
What’re vipassana practices?
Avatar
ten days silent retreat (edited)
10:00 PM
supervised; but you can't talk with anyone; including in-system
10:01 PM
eight-ish hours of meditation per day
10:01 PM
it's a fun thing
10:01 PM
"fun"
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:14 PM
That sounds like a recipe for disaster if I were to try it (edited)
Avatar
it's not easy nods
Avatar
Deleted User 7/3/2018 10:27 PM
what's the purpose of it?
Avatar
to meditate?
10:29 PM
without any distractions
10:29 PM
ultimately you get enlightened but I think that might take some more effort
Avatar
the "including in-system" part seems a bit excessive, that's kinda like saying "no thinking allowed"
Avatar
well yeah; you are trying to clear your mind of stray thoughts
10:30 PM
including ones of your systemmate
10:31 PM
and given I suck at clear-minded fronting we won’t switch much
Avatar
Deleted User 7/3/2018 10:32 PM
enlightened in what sense?
Avatar
in the Buddhist sense
Avatar
Deleted User 7/3/2018 10:33 PM
I will pass
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:34 PM
I'd mostly turn such an experience into nothing but experimentation chaos because heyo free time
Avatar
I figured I feel quite cozy with it; even though Buddhism insists I should get dissipated
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:34 PM
But then again, vanilla Buddhism has a few details I'm not into
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:35 PM
Mainly the detaching from everything detail
Avatar
the previous two retreats were rather beneficial for us
10:35 PM
so we’ll see how this will go
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:36 PM
I know what purpose it serves, but I decided to do the opposite while dealing with the nihilism rabbit hole I was in during high school
Avatar
lucky me for skipping the whole high school part
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:37 PM
Well... Buddhism's "fast track" remains an option in my hand, I just prefer to save it for a near-final resort
Avatar
there's a fast track?
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:38 PM
Well... that's a term from my research into major world religions and trends amongst them
10:39 PM
In gaming terms, Buddhism is the "sequence break" religion amongst most of the religions that seem to be in any degree powerful
10:40 PM
There seems to be a common endpoint amongst several of the Asian faiths, where you basically attune yourself to the universe and get great influence over it as a result
10:41 PM
All of them except Buddhism have you accomplish that by attuning to different parts of the universe over time, slowly building up connections until you hit the required level
10:41 PM
Meanwhile in Buddhism you discard all connections... then plug into everything at once
10:42 PM
I don’t really see it like that shrugs
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 7/3/2018 10:42 PM
It's really only meaningful when you're analyzing those faiths from the perspective that they're paths to what is essentially godhood, which isn't quite how the common believer would see it
10:43 PM
And even that perspective has a lot of prereqs to be of much use, at least in the way I'm using it
Avatar
Vipassana sounds utterly terrifying to me
Avatar
we’re better with switching now so I’ll wonder if I can meditate more myself
7:55 AM
and if there will be any difference
7:55 AM
it's a downright existential exercise for me
Avatar
Let us know how it goes
Avatar
Yeah.
9:18 AM
And ask about the actual purpose of meditation and what is done in advanced meditations.
Avatar
they won’t tell me that; tulpa
Avatar
Tell them you're a scholar, and otherwise you'll just look it up on wikipedia.
9:21 AM
Anyhow, I already know, but it would be better to have a far more accurate account from an actual practitioner.
Avatar
there's an advanced theory sitting that you can take after four casual ones
9:26 AM
I’m very interested in it
9:26 AM
that's why we’re taking this one
Avatar
Oh good. So they will tell you :p
Avatar
well; it's our third
9:37 AM
so I’ll tell you in about 2020
Avatar
is there anything you guys do before meditating to try and make it go better
Avatar
I listen to ASMR, binaural beats, and brain waves.
Avatar
Breloomancer 7/7/2018 11:49 PM
Some people say that white noise or pink noise before or during can help
Avatar
hmm hadn't thuoght to try noise beforehand I'll have give it a go see if it helps
Avatar
I visually push off from my host.
Avatar
When I meditate, I practise diaphragmatic breathing and maintain a straight posture. I have found that this combination helps.
11:00 AM
@Shinyuu, our system has past experience with several-day-long retreats, solely for the purpose of meditation. While there was no spiritual element involved, it was certainly an interesting experience.
Avatar
oh lovely
11:03 AM
we don't really do spiritual things either
Avatar
The most recent of these "long sessions" was in the summer of 2016. Anko, the other half of our system, spent what was between 1-2 weeks practising dissociation from the physical body for what amounted to several hours a day. (edited)
11:04 AM
She posted a precise hour count on the forum. Let me find it.
11:06 AM
So this is my very first Chrismas ever, and I'm pretty excited, so I thought I'd ask you guys to see how you plan on spending time with your tulpas over the holidays. Punch and I decorated a tree in o

The sessions lasted typically 40-60 minutes. Her friend, Momo, was visibly impressed at the time.

I used to do meditation. I did stuff with my chakras before. It was fun

They made a farewell post to the forums about 8 hours ago, as well
